Teresa: Stay-at-Home Mama Back in the Office
Mama Hen, Teresa, is a beloved and important component of the team at Better Bookkeepers and just like when a family goes without mom while she takes a trip, our team reacts and whines very much the same when we are without our Mama Teresa in the office.
She took some time to reflect on the big changes 2017 brought her and new changes that she hopes 2018 will bring next.
This time last year, January 2017, “I was a stay-at-home mother and I didn’t like it. Moving out of home was a big thing for me last year because I like applying my skills and I wanted to challenge myself. I wasn’t using those skills while at home. I was only home because my previous job closed so I never chose to leave the workforce.”
She shared that one of her biggest accomplishments was “Conquering live scans.” Teresa remembered, “The first time I watched how to do a live scan I was thinking in my head, ‘There’s no way I’m going to be able to do this.’” Our main live scan (digital fingerprinting) operator in the office, Teresa has shaved down her time completing the transmittal of fingerprinting information and prints by MORE THAN HALF and has consistently improved her accuracy and attention to detail, all while juggling her own administrative tasks in between.
As well as becoming the Michael Phelps of live scans, Teresa shared that another big area of 2017 improvement was, “Getting familiar with clients. I’m more comfortable when I answer the phone.” As well, she reflected, “I learned to reach out to different opportunities and be more open to changes because it’s not going to be as bad as you think it’s going to be. Going with an open hand and feeling new things out.”
Looking forward to 2018, Teresa set out her goals as: “I want to become more consistent with staying on top of my own things and family things. Keeping myself consistent with proper time management. I need to use my time wisely.”
She predicts, “Better Bookkeepers will get bigger and I’ll sit at my desk and do live scans all day. I don’t see myself ever wanting to pass that on. I love doing live scans.”
Her dreams for 2018 look like: “I want to travel to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Somebody at work told Miguel about it so I was looking at it and it’s beautiful. And Niko wants to go to Canada. It’s the weirdest thing.”
