5 Tips to Help You Get Out of a Work Rut

Let's face it, there are some days when you feel off, and work is the last thing you want to consider. If you feel you're more down than usual and can't find a way to get motivated again, try these steps and see if they can get you out of that work rut.

1. Isolate what the problem is

Once you figure out the source of your issue, the solution could be right there. Maybe it's talking with your coworkers or manager and collaborating on a solution that works for you and the company.

2. Rearrange and personalize your workstation

Especially during the winter, staying motivated on the darker days could be challenging. Add things to your desk that put a smile on your face or brighten your area for a more positive feeling.

3. Set Goals

When you get in work mode, you quickly get lost in what you do. Challenge yourself by making small daily goals to give you a sense of accomplishment and to see that you have accomplished more than you may think.

4. Ask if You Are Taking Care of Yourself Properly

Are you getting enough sleep? Eating right? Staying Hydrated? If you aren't fueling your body, it could become tough to handle day-to-day operations, and getting through one day at work can be too much.

5. Take a Me Day

Sometimes, the best thing to do for a work rut is to give yourself a break. Use a vacation day, get out of the office, and do what makes you happy. Getting a break from the day-to-day is a great way to help you come back refreshed and ready to work.

Lastly, don't forget we are all human! Some days won't be as great as you hoped, and that's okay. There is always tomorrow.
